As part of the best value monitoring process, every three years we have undertaken statutory consultation with residents about our services and life in the borough. All councils have had to carry out the BVPI surveys. They enable the Government to monitor levels of satisfaction with our services against other local authorities and show us how we are performing.
The Place Survey
The BVPI residents' satisfaction survey has been replaced by the Place Survey. This new survey will be carried out in the autumn and will focus on improving outcomes for local people and places rather than processes and institutions. The survey is likely to be carried out every two years.
The questionnaire will ask residents for their opinions about aspects of the quality of life in their local area (such as community safety, local services etc). The findings will be used to see how well residents think we and other local public services are delivering the services that matter to local people. The results will also be used by us and our partners to decide what needs doing differently in the future.
If you receive a questionnaire please take the opportunity to have your say - it is important we hear as many views as possible.
We are also required to carry out three other statutory BVPI surveys – one for council tenants and two separate surveys for those who have used our benefits and planning services.
The latest BVPI general survey took place in September/October 2006. Independent research agency Ipsos MORI asked more than 3000 residents about – among other things – value for money, participation, public safety and expectations. The results are available below.
