Last year, as part of Local Democracy Week, young people from six local schools had the chance to grill local politicians on issues that matter to them in a national web-based event called 'I'm a councillor, get me out of here!'. The young people were able to vote online to choose their overall winner.

In 2006 we organised a 'Take your councillor to school/college' day for Local Democracy Week. The event involved 15 local councillors who visited 250 students at five locations to talk informally about their role and to get involved with a typical student day.

In 2005 we participated in Local Democracy Week with a political speed-dating event to encourage greater interest and involvement from young people in local decision-making.

We also carry out a youth survey as part of our Residents’ Survey to find out what young people think about our services and run a Youth Council of local young people.
