Recycling and refuse collections

Updated: 25/01/10

Following the recent severe weather disruption, we are doing all we can to catch up with any missed collections.  Extra staff and vehicles will be used to collect refuse and recycling, including on Saturday if necessary.

We will collect as much business and domestic refuse and recycling as we can on your scheduled collection date.  Because of the recent disruption, there will be more for us to collect, so it may take us longer than usual.  If we cannot collect your refuse and recycling on your scheduled day, then please leave it out and we will collect it as soon as possible.

Below is a summary of the current situation including instructions and advice on what to do with your domestic and business refuse and recycling.

You can access lots of other information and many of our services on our website. We will also continue to publish regular updates here.

Recycling and refuse – domestic and business
We will collect as much business and domestic refuse and recycling as we can on your scheduled collection day.

Please put out your domestic or business refuse and recycling - and any additional material at the side of bins or boxes - on the scheduled collection date.  Residents can check using our online postcode search for their next scheduled collection date for domestic materials.

We know that you will have more refuse and recycling material and that you may be concerned about what to do with it.  If you have more food waste than will fit into your kerbside caddy, we recommend double wrapping it and placing it in your wheeled bin. Rinsing out bottles, jars and cans before placing into recycling boxes will also help.

Please do not be alarmed if you see recycling materials going in to what looks like a refuse vehicle. All materials in these vehicles will be sorted at a specialist facility at Leatherhead before it is sent for recycling.
