The Department of Health (this page opens in a new window) produce a contingency plan, information and resources for health professionals and the public on pandemic influenza. This helps ensure that the government, public and NHS are properly prepared in the event of a flu pandemic.
The situation regarding Influenza A(H1N1) - also known as Swine flu - continues to evolve. We are monitoring the current situation closely and working with our partner agencies to make sure that we are ready to support local health authorities and our community.
We would like to remind everyone that there are some simple measures to help yourself, your family and your work.
Catch it - germs spread easily. Always carry tissues and use them to catch your cough or sneeze
Bin it - germs can live for several hours on tissues. Dispose of your tissue as soon as possible.
Kill it - hands can transfer germs to every surface you touch. Clean your hands as soon as you can.
If you have any health concerns please call NHS direct (this page opens in a new window) on 0845 46 47 or call your local GP.

Latest news on council plans and services
The Council is not the lead organisation for planning the local response to a pandemic, this rests with the Strategic Health Authority and the Surrey Primary Care Trust. These agencies work together with representatives from local councils, the Police and other key services to form what’s known as the Surrey Local Resilience Forum. We are well represented on this forum which is prepared to respond to the developing situation.
We provide many services for the local community, including to vulnerable people, who rely upon us and trust that we have robust plans to maintain our services in an emergency situation. Our own Pandemic Influenza plans are in place and we have done any necessary preparation so that we can respond appropriately.
