Assistance to landlords is available in four areas:
Grants for 50% of the cost of the works up to specified maximums are available, apart from assistance for renewable technology, which is offered as an interest-free loan.
Landlords installing energy efficiency measures may, in addition, be able to apply for tax breaks in the form of Landlords Energy Savings Allowance (this page opens in a new window). For more information, contact HM Revenue and Customs (this page opens in a new window).
Landlords who receive an empty property grant are required to give tenant nomination rights to the council for a minimum of five years. This allows us to house those in need or key workers who struggle to afford housing within the Guildford Borough area. We would normally expect the property to be let at below market rent for a period, to make it affordable.
If you receive grant assistance, you must let the dwelling as a residence to someone unrelated to you for five years. This condition does not apply to renewable technology loans. If the condition is not met, or the property is sold or ownership transferred within this period, the grant or loan must be repaid.
