What's new
The Government has recently launched the boiler scrappage scheme. This is an incentive to replace older, inefficient boilers with new efficient models. For details of how to apply and other energy saving tips see our Home Energy section.
A Park Home in Guildford has received external wall insulation through the Warmth for 1000 scheme. See our press release and the information below.
A range of assistance is available towards home energy improvements:
The Warmth for 1000 scheme

This has been set up in partnership with other district councils in Surrey and Hampshire, to provide assistance for installing insulation.
Assistance is available to install insulation to walls and lofts. This includes hard-to-treat homes, where access is difficult or where there is no cavity. See our page of frequently asked questions on the Warmth for 1000 scheme and the Warmth for 1000 website (this page opens in a new window).
Funding is assessed on a case-by-case basis and is arranged through Climate Energy. Climate Energy administer the scheme from the initial survey to the installation and payment of the grant. Climate Energy can also make referrals through to Warm Front, where appropriate (see below). You can contact the Warmth for 1000 scheme direct to apply on freephone 0800 980 0902 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm) or via the Warmth for 1000 website (this page opens in a new window).
Warm Front Scheme
Certain households, on means tested or disability related benefits, may also be eligible for assistance towards heating and insulation systems through the Warm Front Scheme (this page opens in a new window). The grant available is up to £3,500 (£6,000 for oil-fired heating).
Warm Front has now been extended, to provide £300 as a rebate to those aged over 60 not eligible for the grant. The Council may also offer assistance in some cases towards heating, either as a top-up to Warm Front funding, as a stand-alone housing grant or by referring you to the Home Trust Loan.
For enquiries about the Warm Front Scheme contact enquiry@eaga.com or freephone 0800 316 2805.
Energy companies' offers
Energy suppliers are obliged to achieve targets for improving home energy efficiency. The suppliers provide a range of offers which significantly reduce the cost of installing energy efficiency measures. What's more, you can take up offers from any of the energy companies, regardless of who supplies your gas and electricity.
You can keep up-to-date on offers available and ways to keep your home 'energy efficient' on the Energy Saving Trust website (this page opens in a new window). You can contact the local Energy Savings Trust Advice Centre, who provide free and impartial advice on 0800 512 012.
The Council also has advice in our Home Energy pages, with details on renewable energy and financial assistance towards this, including through our renewable technology loan.
