The Connexions Surrey Service


What do we do?

  • We work with people aged 13-19, and those up to 25 with special needs.
  • We provide ‘wrap round’ information, advice and guidance for young people addressing all and any issues they might have in their lives.
  • We support young people in making their educational choices throughout their teenage years.
  • We work intensively with vulnerable young people (those who are not in education, employment or training, or who are at risk of falling into this state because of other circumstances) to support them and help them achieve positive outcomes.
  • We consult extensively with young people on the way the Connexions service is delivered in Surrey, and take their needs and opinions into account in all service developments.
  • We are amongst the most successful and effective Connexions services in England, regularly achieving the lowest number of young people not in education, employment or training, amongst other KPIs.

How do we do it?

  • We work in close partnership with all other agencies that provide support for young people, and fund projects in the voluntary and statutory sector to help meet particular needs.

Where do we do it?

  • Connexions Personal Advisers (PAs) visit every maintained school in Surrey on a weekly basis to provide support for all young people in education.
  • Specialist PAs work closely with vulnerable young people; those not in education, employment or training, teenage parents and pregnant teenagers, those with substance misuse problems, care leavers, those with special educational needs, etc. This work is primarily done on an out-reach basis, working with young people wherever and whenever appropriate.
  • Connexions Surrey also run a network of Centres and other access points across the county, which we plan to expand.
