Get involved in the new website
Would you like to be involved in our plans to completely redevelop our website www.guildford.gov.uk, which we plan to launch in the Spring of 2010? 100,000 visitors come to the website each month and it is increasingly becoming a vital way for residents, visitors and businesses in the borough to find out about, apply for, pay for and contact us about services.
To ensure the new website meets everyone’s needs, we plan to hold drop-in sessions over the coming months, giving you the chance to have your say on the the new website whilst it is being developed.
You don’t need to be an internet expert or a design guru, everyone of all ages is welcome and encouraged to get involved, just register your details below and we'll keep you informed of any opportunities.
About the Website Regeneration Project
We have very clear objectives for this redevelopment project, which include meeting accessibility standards to provide easier access for everyone, improving the range and way we provide online services, incorporating feedback from our customers and improving the processes for management and maintenance behind the scenes. There is also an overriding objective to make sure the website and systems are cost effectively developed and delivered for continual improvement.
The overall investment in this major project is for three years and includes a complete redesign, new content management system, external hosting and 24/7 support. We are working with proven experts in developing and delivering websites, who were chosen after a rigorous competitive procurement process.
Whilst we receive a lot of positive feedback from our users, we also receive suggestions for improvement. We have used this feedback, along with other research we have carried out, to design a project that will make our website more user-friendly for everyone. Just some of the improvements will include:
• More intuitive menu system
• Better search facility
• Improved look and feel, particularly for leisure services
• New and improved functionality, including a new events calendar, and more online polls
• Better access for disabled users
We will also be changing the systems used to manage the website, helping us to more efficiently keep online information up to date and ensuring the website is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
