Don't miss out on your right to vote
The annual canvass for the Register of Electors is carried out during August to October every year. The Register of Electors is then published on 1st December and is available for inspection only at the main reception desk and the Electoral Services Unit at the council offices, Millmead House, Millmead, Guildford.
Your name must appear on the Register of Electors in order for you to be able to vote at any elections held between 1 December and 30 November each year.
If you live in the borough and are either British, a Commonwealth or Irish citizen, or a citizen of a member state of the European Community you are advised to inspect the register to make sure that your name is included. If your name is not included in the electoral register you won’t be able to vote, so you’ll be unable to influence the decisions that affect your daily life. Not being registered can also affect your ability to obtain a mortgage, bank loan or credit. The credit reference agencies use the electoral register to confirm where you live.
Moved House?
If you have changed address since the canvass was carried out or if your name is missing from the register, you can make a claim to have your details added. Claims are accepted on a monthly basis and can be made any time between the months of December and mid-August. A claim to be included, or a request for the alteration of any entry must be submitted to the Electoral Services Unit at the council offices, Millmead House, Millmead, Guildford GU2 4BB. Telephone the Electoral Services Helpline - 01483 444115 or email our office using the email address below stating your name and address.
16 or 17 years old?
As soon as you are 18 you can vote! If you are 16 or 17 now, make sure your name is included in the register of electors, otherwise you can’t vote when you reach 18.
