The job of the Legal Service is to provide to the council, its committees, directorates and officers, a legal advisory and executive service which is accessible, accurate, clear, concise, comprehensive, cost effective and prompt. Our aim is to ensure that the council acts lawfully in the exercise of its statutory functions, in the fulfillment of its statutory obligations and in the pursuit of its strategic objectives.
The legal service has only one 'client', namely the council. We cannot provide legal advice to members of the public or to other organisations. Anyone needing legal assistance should contact their own solicitor, the local Citizens Advice Bureau or the Surrey Law Society.
