The Mayor’s Charities

During her Mayoral year, Pauline would be very pleased to attend events or otherwise support the activities of any charities active within the borough.

For more information, please contact the Civic Secretary using the details at the bottom of this page.

In addition to this, Pauline will be actively supporting the following charities.

Disability Challengers
Play is an essential part of any childhood and all children must play to reach their full potential.  However, play and leisure opportunities for disabled children and young people are few and far between.  Because of this, Challengers believe that too many disabled children and young people are being excluded from essential play and childhood experiences.

The play and youth schemes Challengers provide are places for disabled young children and young people to play, make friends and have fun.  This support means that parents can leave their daughter or son knowing that there will always be someone for them to play and be with.  The range of activities provided means that they can offer disabled young people something to do and somewhere to go from the age of 4 to 25.

Challengers estimate that for every disabled child that uses their services, three more are desperately waiting to access the play and leisure schemes.  Any support you can offer will mean more disabled children and their families can access their service.  For more information, or if you can help in some way, please visit the Disability Challengers website (this page opens in a new window).

The Mayor's Musical Muse - Holy Trinity Church, Tuesday 9th March at 7.30pm.  Charity Concert in aid of Disability Challengers - tickets, priced £6, available from Guildford's Tourist Information Centre's box office.

For more information about the fund raising events for Challengers during the year please contact the Civic Secretary using the details at the bottom of this page.

The Mayor’s Distress Fund
Guildford is unusual in that its Mayors have their own long-established charity, the Mayor of Guildford's Distress Fund.  This makes grants to individuals and families throughout the borough who are experiencing financial difficulties.  Most grants are now in response to cases referred by an official agency such as Citizen’s Advice Bureau, Community Health or Social Services.

For more information about the Fund, or if you would like to make a donation or apply for a grant, contact the Civic Secretary using the details at the bottom of this page.

The Guildford Action Furniture Project
In addition to the Mayor's main charities, the Mayor also lends support to the Guildford Action Furniture Project.

This project was set up for the purpose of redistributing affordable furniture.  The scheme collects donated furniture from within Guildford Borough and delivers it, for a small charge, to people on low income including those receiving benefits.  This includes everything needed in a family home environment including sofas, beds, wardrobes, chests of drawers, cupboards, tables, chairs and many more items.

The project is also able to redistribute unwanted electrical items, which are kindly donated.  Before being passed on these items are electrically tested for the charity by Robertson's Electrical Engineers to comply with stringent regulatory trading standards.

Further details on the Guildford Action Furniture project can be found on the official Guildford Action charity website (this link opens in a new window).
