Albury Parish Council

Albury nestles in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Special Scientific Interest, about 4 miles from the centre of Guildford. A Parish of less than 1,000 inhabitants, most of the land is owned by the Duke of Northumberland and farmed by Albury Estate. Albury Mansion, once home to the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland, is now a retirement home and boasts beautiful gardens designed by Evelyn.

The village of Albury is in fact divided into a village and two hamlets, the village being Albury and the hamlets Farley Green and Little London, each one divided from the other by wood and heath land. The river Tillingbourne runs through the centre of the village and in the not so distant past fed the flour mill at the Chilworth edge of the village, which has now given way to a small estate of houses. Albury is also home to one of the two active landfill sites in Surrey, and a landfill liaison committee works closely with SITA to ensure that the villagers are kept aware of all issues surrounding this site.
