I was elected as a Liberal Democrat Councillor for Friary & St Nicolas Ward in 2005. I have lived in the Ward with my daughter for 19 years, having moved here from London, and we have both thoroughly enjoyed town centre living.
I first became involved in local politics during the campaign against the development of the Bedworld site as a large office building and then continued with a campaign to highlight the problems of residents' parking. This led to the setting up of the G4 Residents' Association, which still flourishes as part of the thriving town centre community.
I currently serve on the Council's Planning Committee and Environment & Housing Scrutiny Committee and am the Shadow Lead Member for Safer Guildford and Street Cleansing. I am also a Govenor at Sandfield School, a Trustee of Stoke Hospital and a Trustee of PatchworKids, a charity that supports children in schools in India and Uganda.
I combine working as a publisher and freelance book designer with my new position as a borough councillor.
