I have served as a member of Guildford Borough Council for 20 years since being elected as one of three councillors for the Clandons & Horsleys in 1987.

I was born in Cardiff, studied in London, moving to Guildford with my family in 1967. I have a son and daughter, both married, and six grandchildren. In my professional life, I taught Home Economics, retiring in 1989 when I was widowed. I have been a serving magistrate since 1980. I am a member of Horsley Evangelical Church.
 
I have served on a number of council committees over the years, including Arts & Recreation, Planning and Licensing. Since 2003, I have been the lead member for people & partnerships. This includes arts & culture, heritage, tourism, business and community matters.

As chairman of Guildford in Bloom, I firmly believe that the quality of people's lives can be enhanced by well kept parks and open spaces, with flowers featuring at every opportunity. I am proud of the borough’s support for the arts with Guildford House Gallery and Guildford Philharmonic Orchestra. Our annual book festival in October and our biennial Guildford International Music Festival in March give enormous pleasure to hundreds of attendees.

I am fortunate in being able to represent Guildford Borough Council on Age Concern, Surrey, Guildford Access Group and the Surrey Museums Consultative Committee. I am on the council of the Surrey County Agricultural Society and delighted that their annual show takes place on Stoke Park in the centre of Guildford borough.  I also serve on The Surrey Historic Buildings Trust as a Local Government Association representative.

I am always keen to hear from residents about issues affecting my ward and the Borough generally. I attempt to attend the parish council meetings of the four villages I represent keeping as up-to-date as possible with their thoughts and requirements.
