Sheridan was elected as a councillor for Merrow in 2003, and re-elected with an increased majority in 2007. He is the Vice-Chairman of the Licensing Committee and also serves on the Community Development Scrutiny Committee.
As a local councillor, he has been instrumental in pushing through a ‘no casino’ policy across the Borough; campaigned for the retention of a town centre shuttle bus; sought to protect the character of Merrow from over-development; and worked with Bushy Hill residents to ensure they get a fairer deal - too often their interests are over-looked.
He is very concerned about the proposals in the South East Plan to remove Green Belt protection in Merrow and Burpham and place an unsustainable 'urban extension' on its finges, increasing congestion and urban sprawl.
Sheridan went to school at the Royal Grammar School, Guildford and has undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from Oxford University. He works as the Deputy Director of Research for the Conservative Party, advising David Cameron and the Shadow Cabinet on several key policy areas, including local government and the environment.
