Greening the borough grant

We are offering grants of up to £500 for environmental projects. These projects are to raise awareness and understanding of the environment and help us to protect and improve Guildford Borough.

Applications are made under two categories:

  • Natural environment
    Outdoor and garden projects.  For example sensory gardens, allotment gardens, wildlife areas and composting.
  • Built environment
    For example energy efficiency measures, composting, recycling, cycle racks and a walking bus scheme.

Who can apply?

  • Schools.
  • Community groups.
  • Not-for-profit organisations.


All must be located within Guildford Borough.

The criteria

  • All applications must have an environmental/sustainable element to their project.
  • All projects must be completed within a year of receiving the grant money.
  • The Council reserves the right to publicise any project that has received a greening the borough grant. The grant must be recognised in all publicity related to the project.
  • Successful applicants will be asked to provide:
    • before and after photographs of their projects,
    • copies of invoices and receipts to confirm completion of their work,
    • where appropriate, evidence is required of any necessary permission or consent to carry out works.

Deadline for 2008/9 round:

  • Friday 23rd January 2009.
