Greening the borough grant

We offer grants of up to £500 for environmental projects. These projects are to raise awareness and understanding of the environment and help us to protect and improve Guildford Borough.

Applications can be made under two categories:

  • Natural environment
    Outdoor and garden projects.  For example sensory gardens, allotment gardens, wildlife areas and composting.
  • Built environment
    For example energy efficiency measures, composting, recycling, cycle racks and a walking bus scheme.

Who can apply?

  • Schools.
  • Community groups.
  • Not-for-profit organisations.


All must be located within Guildford Borough.

The criteria

  • All applications must have an environmental/sustainable element to their project.
  • All projects must be completed within a year of receiving the grant money.
  • The Council reserves the right to publicise any project that has received a greening the borough grant. The grant must be recognised in all publicity related to the project.
  • Successful applicants will be asked to provide:
    • before and after photographs of their projects,
    • copies of invoices and receipts to confirm completion of their work,
    • where appropriate, evidence is required of any necessary permission or consent to carry out works.

The Greening the Borough Grant application deadline for 2008/9 is now closed. Applications are currently being processed.
