What is the Greening Campaign?
The Greening Campaign aims to assist local communities to tackle climate change by helping them take practical steps to reduce their carbon footprint. It was first run in Petersfield, when resident Terena Plowright wanted to encourage her local community to save energy and reduce their CO2 emissions.
There are currently five greening communities in Guildford Borough:
-
Albury
-
Friary and St Nicolas
-
Horsleys
-
Stoke
-
Stoughton
If you live in one of the areas listed above and would like to get involved in the campaign or find out more about what is happening in your area please contact the climate change team.
How does it work?
There are four phases to the Greening Campaign:
-
Phase 1: Pick your communities challenges. This initial stage of the campaign is about engaging your local community and motivating them to make a difference. As a community you choose the environmental challenges you want to focus on.
-
Phase 2: Moving forward with a more detailed look at the activities in your community. It involves a more structured and planned approach to tackling climate change.
-
Phase 3: Looks at the effects that climate change will have on your community and how your community will need to adapt.
-
Phase 4: Your group works towards becoming a more sustainable community.
By carrying out the above actions The Greening Campaign will help you work out how much CO2 your community is saving.
How can you take part and find out more?
If you or your community group are interested in the Greening Campaign we still have funding to support a sixth group. For more information please contact the climate change team.
