Why it is important to the council?
The 2006 Government White Paper means that councils have a responsibility to:

  • be environmental leaders in their communities,
  • promote sustainability through their policies and day-to-day activities.

More recently, government targets require local authorities to take action to reduce CO2 emissions from:

  • their own operations,
  • within the borough.
