The following projects were completed in 2004:
Bridge End Ockham - Flood Relief Project Phase I
The junction where streams coming from East Horsley and Effingham meet was reconstructed to prevent it from spilling over and flooding properties in Ockham.
Completed: January 2004
Guildford High Street - Smooth Pedestrian Crossing
New granite setts were carefully laid to provide a smooth crossing across a section of the High Street, for those who find the street surface difficult to cross.
The setts were selected to exactly match the original material, which was first laid in 1868.
Completed: February 2004
Lakeside Road, Ash Vale - Pedestrian Tunne
After six years of negotiation we designed and built a well-lit and safe pedestrian route between the Quadrant and Vale Road in Ash Vale. The tunnel was carefully built through the railway embankment at Lakeside road, while still allowing trains to travel safely overhead.
It was officially opened by the former Mayor Gordon Bridger on April 2nd 2004.
Completed: March 2004
Stoke Fields - Environmental Improvements Phase II
Following on from the successful resurfacing of Stoke Fields & Stoke Grove, the second phase of this scheme has now been completed.
This involved installing new lighting columns, ducting and resurfacing the Seven Corners pathway to match the paving used along Stoke Fields in Phase I.
Completed: May 2004
Crematorium - Sculpture Paving
We designed and constructed a paved area within the children’s memorial garden, as a base for a sculpture that had been commissioned. An appropriate paving slab was selected to compliment the sculpture, and the areas orientation designed to provide view of the sculpture down an avenue of rose boarders.
Completed: June 2004
The Chase - Off road parking provision
Following the implementation of a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) order, many residents within The Chase were subjected to police enforcement preventing them from parking vehicles “on street”.
In a proactive response to this problem we have constructed, where possible, off street parking provision within the boundaries of the Council owned properties. In addition, vehicle dropped crossings and upgrading of existing hard-standings has been undertaken to the benefit of both the residents and Council housing stock.
Completed - July 2004
Foundation Units - Resurface
Since opening over 20 years ago, there had been some settlement in Slyfield Industrial Estate where it was built on the closed landfill site. The Foundation Units themselves were built on piles to ensure stability, but the surface outside had sunk in places by up to 300mm.
We resurfaced this area and improved the drainage and access into the 14 units.
Completed: August 2004
Spectrum Leisure Centre - Car park extension
Before the new extension was built, the Park & Ride scheme ran from the main car park. When the Leisure Centre was built, the car park was not designed with this in mind. As a consequence it was regularly filled, particularly during the school holidays.
This scheme has provided 254 new spaces, a bus lay-by (with shelter) and a new recycling area. A new area for coaches to drop off visitors was also built into the old car park.
Completed: August 2004
Ripley Village - Car Park
We have constructed a new public car park by White Hart Court (off Rose Lane). This will help shoppers and local businesses located in and around the High Street, Ripley.
The car park is designed to accommodate 58 cars. Initially parking will be free of charge but this will be subject to review after a period of monitoring.
Completed: September 2004
Cremetorium - Cycle Path
This is just one small element of Guildford’s Cycle network which when finished will link Guildford and Godalming with a combination of on road, off road and combined cycle lanes. This location is a combined route (Foot Path & Cycle Lane). The existing footway was in a poor state of repair and required regrading & widening to provide a safe path for pedestrians & cyclists. The footway was widened to 2m, additional drop-crossings with tactile paving added and the junction with Summers Road improved.
Completed: October 2004
Westfield Road / North Moors - Traffic Management Improvements
Lack of regulated parking spaces along the roads in Slyfield Industrial Estate were causing obstructions to the free flow of vehicles.
A similar scheme to Moorfield Road has been constructed to provide clearly defined parking spaces and standardise the carriageway width to improve vehicle flow.
Completed: December 2004 (substantially)
