2005 completed


The following projects were completed in 2005:

Downsview Court - Parking area extension
The residents at Downsview Court, which is part of the Council's housing, had been suffering from parking problems due to the space available.

An unused drying area was excavated for the additional space, once removed the existing parking area was extended to provide 16 standard and 2 disabled bays.

Slyfield Green - Pedestrian crossing improvements
A total of 26 dropped crossings were installed within the Slyfield Green area to provide better access for pedestrian and wheelchair users.

Stoughton Road Shops - Environmental improvements
Stoughton photo of railingsA new parking area was constructed to provide 4 standard and 1 disabled bay for visitors to the parade of shops, which has been built to help alleviate the parking issues in the area.

Railings have also been installed along the grass areas in front of the shops and along Maple Grove as part of visual improvements to the area.

Stoughton Road Shops - Access road reconstruction
The access road behind Stoughton Road shops was in poor condition and in need of repair. The area was reconstructed to a high standard and a drainage channel installed to help remove surface water.

Ash Wharf - Environmental improvements
Ash Wharf improvement photoDue to the parked vehicles along Wharf Road in Ash, it was becoming difficult for pedestrians to cross safely when accessing the shops. To overcome this problem a traffic table has been constructed across the main and service road, to provide a clear crossing point for pedestrians.

Rotary International - Centenary plaque installation
As part of the Rotary Club's centenary, a Historic Trail of Guildford's Historic Heritage. As part of the trail the points of interest were indicated by a bronze disc in the Rotary Club's design, these were set into the pavement at 23 locations in total.

Farley Green - Flood Relief Scheme
Works were undertaken to alleviate flooding at Farley Green in Albury; a problem which had been ongoing for a number of years to varying degrees.  Together with Surrey County Council, the existing watercourses were cleaned and de-silted before new drainage pipes were installed to channel the flow of water.
