Thorneycroft Wood Flood Alleviation

Thorneycroft Wood is registered Ancient Woodland and an integral part of a Local Nature Reserve (LNR). Not only does this woodland fulfil environmental requirements for the indigenous wildlife, it provides an educational and recreational area for local residents and the community.  Within this important environment is a stream. The stream carries surface water runoff from an upland catchment, through the woods then to the flood meadow further down the watercourse. Over the years the stream has come under increased pressures resulting in increased erosion.

Serious concerns to the streams stability, public and property safety dictated the necessity to design and construct a flood alleviation scheme to stabilise the erosion.

The design incorporated stream bed profiling, a Geotextile membrane to encourage planting, gabion mattress to line the streambed, a headwall and weir/dam with a Hydro-break.

This design will allow for surface water to be retained and flow through the stream at a reduced rate.

Chantry Wood Car Park Extension

The car park provides safe and convenient parking for local residents and the community when using the recreation facilities in the area. Over the years the car park has come under increased pressure due to its location and popularity. It was decided to increase the car park capacity by 12 spaces and resurface the existing.

Environmental and local concerns were considered during the design process. An innovative product called cell-web was used to protect tree roots and coxwell gravel was used for the surface layer. This reduced the visual impact on the local environment.

Environmental Improvement Scheme October 2007

Chapelhouse Close is a housing area within Park Barn estate. It consists of low rise dwellings constructed in the late 60's/early 70's. Following consultation between the Council and residents the need for more parking was established. The open plan grassed area between the buildings was attracting anti social behaviour, and it was felt that soft landscaping and suitably equipped junior play areas would lend itself to reducing the problem.

A scheme was prepared for Housing to provide parking, play and open space areas. Following further resident consultation, planning permission for the works were approved and construction completed in the autumn of 2007.

Stoke Park Nursery Entrance, Nightingale Road

Works were undertaken to improve the entrance to the Stoke Park Nursery. A new footpath was constructed to allow better access to the park for pedestrians. The area was also re-surfaced as tree roots had penetrated through the wearing course and had caused the area to become uneven.
