Our environmental improvement scheme aims to improve the appearance and quality of areas in the borough and is carried out under the council's minor capital programme and by using funds gained through planning negotiations known as section 106 funding.
The projects we get involved in range from conservation initiatives in areas considered to be of high environmental quality to improving tired or neglected areas such as shopping parades and open spaces near residential areas and can take the form of hard or soft landscape schemes, installation of railings, artwork, street furniture or lighting .
We are responsible for the concept, consultation and outline designs for these projects and believe that the programme remains one of the most effective ways for us to achieve co-ordinated, high quality improvements within our borough.
