Worplesdon Road Environmental Improvements

Greening the Approaches is a policy established by the council to improve the appearance of main routes leading into the town. For this reason Worplesdon Road was high on the list of roads for the reintroduction of vegetation, to bring back the trees that had once occupied its broad footpaths.

Running north from Guildford, Worplesdon Road passes through Stoughton and is an important route into the town.

The work included the construction of planting beds and tree pits for trees and shrubs. In total 26 trees were planted of which 14 were London Plane Trees and 12 Hornbeam. Shrubs were chosen according to their ability to meet the conditions of a busy road and to provide interest throughout the year.

The planting has put the finishing touches to earlier improvements at Worplesdon Road, which included enhanced cycling facilities with the addition of cycle lanes as well as a renewed crossing point for pedestrians. Surrey County Council have also resurfaced the pavements and road.
