Bonfires may seem a convenient waste disposal method but there are other alternative options available.

Recycling
Household waste should never be burnt and many items can be recycled.  Unwanted items in good condition can be advertised via websites such as swapitsurrey (this page opens in a new window) or freecycle (this page opens in a new window).

The Furniture Project can collect unwanted items of furniture and then deliver the donations, for a small charge, to people on low income.  For further information visit the Furniture Project website (this page opens in a new window) or phone 01483 506504.

Composting
Composting your garden waste in your own garden is the most environmentally friendly option and will provide you with a valuable resource to use in your garden.  Compost bins are available to Guildford Borough residents by calling 0845 077 0757, or order online at recycle now (this page opens in a new window).

Garden Waste Collection Service
If you are unable to compost your garden waste at home, you can join a fortnightly garden waste collection scheme, available to Guildford residents.  Reusable garden waste sacks are supplied for you to fill and are collected fortnightly by the Council.
