Noise

Problems with noisy neighbours?
We investigate complaints of noise nuisance from domestic properties. We need details of what the noise is and where it comes from. The name of who makes a complaint is kept confidential unless they agree to be identified.  We try to resolve complaints swiftly without resorting to our legal powers. If a formal approach is needed we will require evidence of the complaint and we may ask a resident to complete diary sheets for a period. We will involve third parties, such as landlords, in investigations if they are well placed to resolve complaints.

What constitutes a noise nuisance?
We are willing to investigate any noise that causes nuisance to a resident in their home. How we try to stop the nuisance depends on a number of issues.  In cases of severe nuisance we may be able to use our legal powers. Where the nuisance is low level or is a “one off” such as a party, we may take a less formal approach. In some cases we may not be able to help at all because not every complaint that we receive is found to be nuisance that we can act on. Throughout an investigation the resident who complains will be kept informed of our progress and of its outcome.
