Garden and organic waste make up a large proportion of all of the rubbish which ends up in landfill.  We are therefore promoting a number of ways of recycling this waste through home composting and our garden waste collection service.

Composters
Composting your garden waste in your own garden is by far the most environmentally friendly option as no transportation is required and it will provide you with a valuable resource to use in your garden.  In order to support you the Council  offers a choice of compost bins from the incredibly good price of just £13.50 upwards, while stocks last.  To order one please call 0845 130 6090, alternatively online orders can be made at www.surrey.getcomposting.com (this page opens in a new window) (compost bins are not available from the Woking Road Depot).

Green cones
A green cone enables you to recycle all household food waste in your back garden, from bread to raw meat.  Just lift the lid and add your unwanted food to the cone, the waste then breaks down and disperses into the ground.

Green cones are available at the heavily subsidised price of £5 and can be purchased from the Woking Road Depot.  If you need your cone to be delivered, please send a cheque made payable to 'Guildford Borough Council' with delivery address details to Recycling and Cleansing, Woking Road Depot, Woking Road, Guildford, Surrey, GU1 1QE.

Wormeries
If you would like to compost but do not have a garden then a wormery can be used to convert kitchen waste into concentrated liquid plant food and rich compost ideal for window boxes and house plants.  They are odour free with a sealed lid and can be kept indoors or out.  They can be ordered from by contacting Original Organics Ltd (wormeries are not available from the Woking Road Depot).
