Over 90% of residents gave the thumbs up to Recycling Works, our trial waste-collection and recycling service. These findings follow a consultation with 1,800 homes who trialed the scheme.
The consultation also showed:
Residents on the trial, benefit from one of the most comprehensive and successful kerbside recycling collections in the country. Advantages include:
-
continued weekly collections of food waste and dry recyclables
-
continued bi-weekly collections of garden waste
-
bi-weekly collections in a wheeled bin of any remaining rubbish that can't be recycled or composted
Based on the success of Recycling Works, we have decided that the trial should be extended for a year.
Results suggest that if the scheme is extended across the borough, Guildford would be one of the country's leading recyclers.
Here is a sample of what residents had to say:
Deborah Stannard of Burpham wrote, “This scheme has actually made recycling enjoyable! I love the kitchen waste caddy – it’s easy to use and keeps my other bin clean.”
Ruth Breen who lives in the Christchurch Ward said, “I have found the service excellent and as a family of seven I am surprised I can manage with one bin.”
Amanda Kerridge from Park Barn said, “Fantastic scheme that reduces black bin bag rubbish. Strongly agree with it continuing!”
We plan to extend the scheme and hope to implement it across the Borough starting in October 2009.
To make collections more efficient we are reorganising rounds to cut down on fuel costs and emissions. These changes may mean collection days will change. If you are affected by these changes we will write to you with full details.
