Cardboard
When recycling your cardboard please tear or flatten it so that it will fit within your purple box.
Large pieces of cardboard can be taken to a recycling bank. For details of the location of these please contact the Recycling Hotline using the details at the bottom of this page.
Shredded paper
Many residents are shredding some paper to protect themselves from identity fraud. It is often only necessary to shred the parts of a document with your personal details on them.
Shredded paper is excellent material to add to your compost heap as it will rot down and provide a useful source of carbon to your composting mix.
If you prefer to recycle it in your purple box put it all into a paper bag or old envelope to stop it creating a mess.
Other paper to recycle
You can also recycle all of the following in your purple box:
Please note: There is no need to remove windows from envelopes or staples.
Tetrapaks
Please do not add liquid food drinks cartons (tetrapaks) to your purple box as these contain layers of plastics and sometimes foil. There are banks for liquid food cartons at five of our recycling centres. Call our Hotline for the locations.
Paper makes up nearly 30% of our household waste so please recycle as much of it as possible. It is a great waste of resources when sent to landfill via your black sacks. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
