Tune in to battery recycling
We are very pleased to announce that we have now introduced battery recycling to your kerbside collection service. Did you know that the average household uses 21 batteries a year, all of which can now be recycled. So for the whole of the UK that’s around 600 million batteries weighing 22,000 tonnes - the equivalent of 110 Jumbo Jets.
We have provided you with small bags that, once full, can be sealed and deposited into your green box. Batteries suitable for recycling include AA, AAA, square and button batteries that are either single use or rechargeable. Please ensure that the batteries are fully "spent" by testing them in a torch or other relevant product. It is also important to make sure that the bag is properly sealed before placing in the box. Car batteries should be taken to your local Community Recycling Centre.
Everything we collect will be sent to a specialist recycling plant in the West Midlands where they will be sorted into their various types prior to recycling into new batteries or used in the steel industry. So do the positive thing and recycle your batteries. If you have not received your bags, or need more of them, please contact the Recycling Hotline.
If you prefer to drop off your batteries you can take them to the Community Recycling Centre at Slyfield Estate or to Robert Dyas at 25 - 27 White Lion Walk, Guildford.
