We run a series of environmentally themed assemblies and workshops for all schools in the borough, as part of our Sustainable Schools Programme.
Assemblies and workshops can be tailored to suit.
Energy Saving Assembly
A great way to raise awareness of climate change issues in your school. This fun and interactive assembly will help raise awareness of energy saving in school. If your school would like to borrow an energy monitor from the council and set up a pupil-led energy saving scheme, this assembly will motivate pupils, leaving them keen to help reduce your school's electricity consumption and CO2 emissions. To book please see details listed below.
Energy saving workshops
A short introduction is given to pupils to demonstrate the effect that human activity has on global warming and the benefits of energy saving. The pupils will carry out an energy audit within their classroom and look into ways of saving energy in school and at home. Activities can include: various artwork to help raise awareness of energy saving around the school, energy saving bingo and organising your schools very own ‘power ranger’ team.
‘Who will save us’ workshops: KS1
This workshop offers a hands on and informative session that lets children develop their creativity and imagination. The story ‘Who Will Save Us’ is re-enacted using puppets made from waste materials to inspire the children to create artwork on climate change issues. Activities can include: reusing waste materials to make puppets based on characters in the story and poster-making.
Renewable Energy Workshops
Pupils will look at the benefits of renewable energy vs. fossil fuels and why it’s important to invest in renewables. They will have a chance to get involved in solar and wind power experiments to see how renewable energy works. Activities can include: an energy audit, creating and constructing solar powered cars and poster-making.
In partnership with the Yvonne Arnaud theatre, the council also run educational hydro workshops, for more information please visit our hydro pages.
