Guildford Design Awards

Buildings and conservation projects across the borough have been recognised in the 2009 Guildford Design Awards.

The awards co-ordinated by the council since 1987, aims to raise design standards and environmental awareness in the borough. 

The award winners and commended entries received a framed certificate at a special ceremony held in October at The Guildhall, Guildford.

Wayne Hemingway MBE joined the winners to celebrate their success and presented them with their award certificates.  Now best known for his design work - from housing to radios - and as a commentator and broadcaster on design matters, Wayne was originally known for the Red or Dead fashion label.

He is chairman of Building for Life, a Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) funded organisation that promotes excellence in the design of new housing.  For more information on Building for Life, please visit their website www.buildingforlife.org (this page opens in a new window).

Highly commended: Gosden House school for environmental and art projects: including a new seating area, sculpture, courtyard and pond area.
