Community Action. Help us to keep your neighbouhood clean, safe and green.
What is Community Action?
The scheme has often been described as environmental neighbourhood watch. Over 300 local volunteers keep a look out for problems as they go about their daily business and report any concerns to Guildford Borough Council using email, pre-paid postcards or the telephone if the matter is urgent.
What can I report?
Whether it's a build up of litter, an abandoned car, a pothole in the pavement or an overgrown hedge which is causing obstruction the Community Action Team can help. If it is affecting your environment we want to know. You do not have to worry who is responsible. We sort that out!
What happens next?
If the matter is the responsibility of Operational Services (usually refuse collection, street cleansing or public conveniences) we will take immediate action to resolve the problem.
If the report concerns another department of the Council or another agency such as Surrey County Council, we will pass on your report for their attention. Hopefully you will see your problem resolved quickly. However, occasionally things may take a little longer.
You will receive regular summaries updating you on the status of your reports. If we have dealt with the matter we will tell you tell you what we have done. If we have passed your report on to another department or agency we will tell you who this is and give you their telephone number should you wish to pursue the matter. We will also keep in touch with CAP reps via a newsletter as well as open evenings which give reps the opportunity to share experiences and ideas.
Want to become a CAP rep?
CAP representatives share a common commitment to maintain the quality of Guildford's environment. We are always seeking to recruit new reps. No experience or knowledge is necessary just the commitment and enthusiasm.
If you are interested in becoming a rep or want to know more contact the Cleansing Department.
