Town Rider

A new town centre transport service provided by Guildford Borough Council
If you are over 60 or have reduced mobility (short or long-term) and need a little help around town, you can use the new Town Rider. The service is available to anyone with learning difficulties or mental health issues and is open to borough residents and visitors.  The bus operates 9.30am - 4.00pm Monday to Friday. It will pick you up and drop you off where you like within the area shown on the operating zone map [PDF] (341k).  Not only will our drivers take you around the town, they will also help you onto the bus and carry your shopping on board if you need an extra hand.

How to book a ride?
Just register once to use the service. Guildford Borough Council’s Executive has made registration free during the six month trial (although a modest charge is normally made).

Once registered passengers can:

  • pre-book journeys up to 4pm for journeys the following morning, or up to, midday on the day of travel for afternoon journeys,
  • book a pick up time direct with the driver on the day,
  • arrange repeat bookings for regular travel such as a weekly shopping trip,
  • If you are in town and wish to make a booking for the same day in person, you can also use the Tourist Information Centre in Tunsgate,
  • Passengers pay the driver £1 for the first journey taken on any day, then only 50p for subsequent journeys on the same day.

Ring 01483 458 052 for more details or download the Town Rider information and registration leaflet [PDF] (480k).

The service will operate for a trial period starting 20 October and will be reviewed following consultation in the New Year.
