Surrey County Council is now coordinating its main transport policies and strategies through a new multi-disciplinary partnership called Transport for Surrey (TfS).
TfS brings together those involved in transport such as the Highways Agency, bus and rail operators, local councils, the Government Office for the South East (GOSE) and Surrey Police. Guildford Borough Council is represented on the Surrey Board in recognition of its role as a regional hub where growth is proposed.
The role of the TfS partnership is to coordinate transport activities and the TfS board has agreed that a number of district level area groups be established and one of them is focused on Guildford: Transport for Guildford (TfG).
One of the first tasks for TfG will be to develop proposals for major transport schemes within the borough for which Surrey County Council has secured Regional Transport Board approval.
This is an exciting challenge - shaping the future transportation agenda in Guildford.
