We own and manage around 2000 garages in and around Guildford.  These are available for rent to tenants and to private individuals at competitive rates. 

Who can rent a garage?
Anybody over the age of 18 can rent a council garage regardless of whether they live in the local area or not. 

What can I use a garage for?
Permitted uses

• Car storage
• Storage of personal effects and household items

Not permitted

• Storage of materials in connection with a business
• Storage of scrap materials
• Storage of any material which has the potential to cause pollution
• Storage of any corrosive substance
• Storage of any volatile flammable material
• Storage of gas cylinders, whether empty or full
• Repairs to vehicles, except for minor repairs to your own vehicle in connection with keeping the car roadworthy

How do I pay for a garage and how much will it cost?
A deposit of £35 per garage is required which is payable on signing for a garage tenancy when the keys are issued.  If you are already a council tenant, the garage rent will be added to your housing rent account automatically.  If you are a private tenant you will need to pay via direct debit.

The current charges to rent a garage for council tenants are as follows:

• All areas excluding town centre - £7.11 per week.
• Town centre (Falcon Road, Mount Court and Bishops Court):
  • Living within a mile of the town centre - £8.71 per week.
  • Living more than a mile from the town centre - £14.22 per week.

For private tenants, the above charges are liable for VAT @ 17.5% and are as follows:

• All areas excluding town centre - £8.35 per week.
• Town centre (Falcon Road, Mount Court and Bishops Court):
  • Living within a mile of the town centre - £10.23 per week.
  • Living more than a mile from the town centre - £16.71 per week.
