Private landlords benefit from council scheme
More and more households are being housed in the private rented sector with the help of private landlords working in tandem with our Housing Advice Service.

Through the Homes 4 U rent deposit scheme households and landlords are supported financially and legally to ensure the tenancy is a success.

Between January 2004 and October 2006 Homes 4 U has paid £300,000 to landlords and letting agencies as security deposits and rent in advance. This has helped 300 households move into a new home in or outside the borough, sometimes in as little as eight weeks instead of a normal wait of between three and five years or longer for council or housing association housing.

Cllr Andrew French, Lead Member for Housing and Community, says:

"Homes 4 U is an excellent extension to the services provided by Guildford Borough Council, helping families and single people have more choice in finding accommodation.  It also helps create very positive partnerships with business in the private sector and reduces Council expenditure by reducing the need for expensive temporary accommodation."

Landlord Barry Grinstead is also benefiting from Homes 4 U:

"Homes 4 U has been excellent in helping me to find good tenants for my properties.  If any issues do arise such as payment of rent or housing benefit I can always access a friendly and efficient team at the Council to get them resolved."
