Housing benefit news

  1. Local Housing Allowance
The Local Housing Allowance (LHA) is currently being tested in 18 local authorities of which Guildford is one. The government outlined its plan for the national rollout of the LHA in the welfare reform green paper:

A New Deal for Welfare: Empowering People to Work

which was published in January 2006. It is envisaged that national rollout of the scheme will commence in 2008. In the mean time, the pathfinder local authorities will continue to apply the existing LHA regulations to their tenants in the private rented sector.

  2. Tax Credits and Pension Credits
Tax credits are a form of financial support for an estimated 6 million families nationally. They replace Working Families Tax Credit, Disabled Person's Tax Credit and Children's Tax Credit.

Please ensure that you pass details of any tax credit award to the housing benefit office at Guildford Borough Council.

Pension Credit is the government's strategy for reforming pension provision. It replaced Minimum Income Guarantee, delivered through Income Support for people aged 60 or over.
