Thanks to everyone who took the time to fill in our online questionnaire. We are now collating the responses and will have more information and our plan for future public art schemes available later in the year.

What is public art? There are lots of ideas about public art, but it should always involve artists and be something the public can experience freely. It can include but is not limited to: sculptures, street furniture (such as seating and lighting), landscape design and temporary projects such as exhibitions, artist-in-residence schemes and events such as performances and carnivals.
Most of the public art you see around Guildford Borough, for example the stained glass outside Boots on Swan Lane and the railings below by Julian Coode, has been funded privately through a scheme called Percent for Art. Percent for Art is resourced from when companies building large developments give part of the total costs towards public art in the area. Other projects are funded through legacies, trusts and foundations and occasionally through public funds.
