We have Full Accreditation Status by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA).
The scheme sets nationally agreed standards for UK museums and to qualify, museums must meet clear requirements on how they care for and document their collections and how they are managed.
Accreditation addresses the needs of the museum or gallery visitor. It requires all museums/galleries provide opportunities for visitors to enjoy and learn from their collections, an assurance that the collections, including donated items, are held in trust for society as well as appropriate facilities. Full Accreditation is also the benchmark required by funding bodies nationally to provide grants for projects and acquisitions.
Guildford House Gallery was singled out for praise for its documentation procedures and particularly for the online database that not only documents the movement of incoming and outgoing objects, their provenance and their movement around the gallery, but also provides visitors with online access to the collection when it is not being displayed. The database includes descriptions and categories of all the works as well as biographical detail of the artists.
