After studying at The Bristol College of Commerce, Sue worked in industry for 10 years. She then studied Fine Art with James Hockey at the West Surrey College of Art and Design. Sue’s career to date has included work at the Hackney Studio in Surrey and workshops in Paris with the Societe des Pastellistes de France. Sue is interested in portraiture and has worked with Ken Paine PS., SPF., the portrait painter at Hampton Court.
The body language of Sue’s models plays an important part in her figurative paintings and she is currently involved in a series of studies including dance and jazz and has produced work for the BBC Radio 2 and 3 2006 Jazz Awards.
Sue has exhibited in the UK and internationally. Exhibitions include: AAF Battersea: C2 Gallery, Bucks: Gallery 54 Mayfair; Guildford House; The Menier Gallery, Southwark; Vivartis, Surrey; The Liz Hernandez Gallery, Tucson, Arizona; Yvonne Arnaud Art, Surrey; The French Pastel Society in Paris, Bordeaux and Limoges; Llewellyn Alexander (Fine Paintings) Ltd., London; The Society of Women Artists; The Pastel Society UK and the Federation of British Artists. She has recently won several awards at the Society of Women Artists in London and is now an Associate Member. Sue exhibits with Kathi Rodgers of The Old Pueblo Frameworks, Tucson and has been commissioned to produce work for their forthcoming exhibitions.
The ‘moving landscape’ and her beloved mountains have greatly influenced Sue’s work. ‘Movement interests me. In my paintings I am trying to convey an energy and passion not only from the body language of my models but from ‘the living landscape’. ‘For me nothing is static: the elements can change the perspective and appearance of apparently inanimate objects’.
Future plans will involve work for the French Pastel Society and as a frequent visitor to Africa Sue would like to embark upon a series of wildlife paintings.
