A welcome return of this talented local photographic group.
Guildford Photographic Society is believed to have been founded in 1892, with the objective of "advancing the art and craft of amateur photography". The GPS was reformed in 1947 by a group of dedicated Guildford photographers, who laid the foundations of today’s successful Society. The objective is still the same even though the equipment used today has advanced beyond the wildest dreams of those early photographers.
The GPS aims to inform, encourage and entertain amateur photographers which in turn will enable them to improve and enjoy the results of their work. During their "Season", September to early June they have a programme of events covering club and inter-club competitions for prints and slides, guest presentations where respected photographers bring along their own presentations. They arrange practical demonstrations on subjects like producing mounts and have "critique" evenings where they review Society member’s own work to help them improve on techniques and subject matter.
Within this new age of Digital equipment they have started to run a separate digital photography support group and have recently been awarded a Lottery grant to purchase a laptop and digital projector.
Society membership has a wide range of experience and they are only too pleased to assist new members who wish to improve their photography.
If you wish to join, they meet Mondays during the Season at the Burpham Village Hall in Burpham Lane at 8.00pm.
