Jenefer Ham produces distinctive, vibrant glass to adorn and enhance windowsills, walls and wardrobes.
All pieces are created by Jenefer at her workshop in Guildford.
Jenefer Ham was born and brought up in America, and three years ago fulfilled a long-held ambition to live in the UK. She trained as a commercial artist, then began working for a jeweller before setting up her own business as a graphic designer. She was always interested in artistic, creative pursuits including painting and ceramics, but felt a strong attraction toward glass, gemstones, and other reflective mediums. Five years ago she took a six-week course at a fusing centre, ordered a kiln and began to work with glass.
Jenefer says that she is interested in how colours and textures interact within the glass. Mainly self-taught, her style developed focusing on capturing light within the layers and colours of glass. She creates her work at her Guildford studio with sheets of coloured glass, layering many shapes and colours in one-off, original designs, then fusing them at 800°C in the kiln before carefully controlled cooling relieves internal stresses, ensuring a durable finished piece. She shapes the piece or adds more layers of glass and most pieces go through several kiln cycles. Because it takes about 24 hours to safely heat then properly cool fused glass, pieces can spend a week in the kiln creating a depth of colour and a unique piece of glass.
All pieces are safe for use with food and easily cleaned with a soft cloth and washing up liquid.
In 2007 Jenefer Ham is exhibiting at Design Edge. Design Edge represents the very best in contemporary British Crafts. She has also exhibited at the British Craft Trade Fair and Vivartis as well as a solo exhibition at the Model House Craft and Design Centre in Llantrisant. In April 2007 Jenefer exhibited with photographer Peter John Fellows at the Pendle Arts Gallery in Lancashire.
2007 will be her first exhibition with the Kaleidoscope Group at Guildford House Gallery.
