Cathy Newell Price says: "I am a designer maker of contemporary jewellery. I use mainly precious metals and incorporate semi-precious stones, enamel and coloured gold. Most of my pieces are entirely fabricated by hand and I find great satisfaction in the transformation of the raw materials to the finished piece. All my pieces are made in my workshop that is in a lovely rural setting in Shinfield just outside Reading.
Much of my inspiration comes from the natural world, especially plants, this reflects my background in the natural sciences. I also draw inspiration from the world around, a little detail on a gate or motif on a fabric will catch my attention and inspire a new range."
Cathy Newell Price's jewellery designs are inspired by flowers, plant structures, textile motifs and architectural details. Decorative in nature with surface texture and tiny details. Colour is added to silver pieces with semi-precious stones, enamel and pearls.
Intricate one off pieces often tell a story, the escape of nature, the changing of the seasons; almost always a common theme is the natural world. Not surprising as her degree was in Plant Science. Elements of these one off pieces are developed into her ranges of jewellery.
