Joanne Eddon

After graduating in 1986, Joanne set up her business with the help of The Prince’s Trust, producing a range of vibrant hand painted silk scarves, ties, and simple garments in rural Lancashire.
Her technique is an unusual monoprint method of handpainting; each piece is painted individually but, unlike other methods of handpainting, this allows her the freedom to achieve a paint-brush mark. Consequently, her designs are distinctive, controlled yet painterly.
Joanne works exclusively in silk but with various types including habotai, velvet, organza and metallic organza. Her painted fabric is used in various ways, patching, appliqué, knitting, felting as well as producing the classic hand painted silk scarf in various sizes and shapes with hand rolled edges.
Source material for her designs varies tremendously from the work of artists such as Klimt, Chagall and Hundertwasser to celtic patterning and illuminated manuscripts or, more simply, flowers from her garden.
Over the years Joanne has produced special designs for bodies such as The National Trust, Yorkshire Dales National Park, Lady Lever Art Gallery and The Walker Art Gallery. Her studio/workshop is based at an art and specialist shopping complex, Cedar Farm, in Mawdesley, nr. Ormskirk, Lancashire.
