Recent Commissions
Three large scale Mixed Media Textiles for an apartment in the South of France.
Penelope says, "I make both two and three dimensional textiles, large and small works are undertaken. Panels, hangings and various glazed works are made.
Since the 1980s I have been producing mainly mixed media textiles. I enjoy combining paint, fabric and stitch, and find the visual appearance of these textures together appealing. The sea, coastline and estuaries of North Devon have been my main design source but recently I have been working with plants from France and the Greek islands.
My method of work is usually the same. I start by making drawings and colour studies and I annotate my quick sketches so that I have plenty of information to use as I wish. These are then translated into oil painting on canvas combined with stitch, fabric and thread in machine embroidery.
I am a member of the South West Textile Group, North Devon Arts, Westward Ho and Bideford Art Society and a member of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen."
