Tony Todd

'Tick Tock' Painting by Tony Todd

"Tick Tock - Lord Cut-Glass, the dignified mad, mad clock collector.  Sixty three clocks, one to match every year of his life, all set at different times, chiming, clunking, ticking.  Many of the characters from the 'Under Milkwood' collection were based on people I know or came across in the Guildford Area."

Tony Todd (b. 1940) NAPA, IATTDA, lives and works in Chilworth, and is principally known for his Dylan Thomas 'Under Milkwood' paintings.  These paintings were done in his unique idiosyncratic style and took two years to complete.

Tony has worked for advertising agencies and studios, and exhibited in galleries throughout the UK including many one man shows.

His work includes many hundreds of published paintings for greetings cards and prints, also book covers and illustrations for scores of the major UK and international publishers.  Work also appears in many private and public collections, including that of HM The Queen.

Tony Todd is a member of Guildford Art Society, Cranleigh Art Society, Dorking Group of Artists, International Association of Two and Three Dimensional Artists and the National Acrylic Painters Association.

Tony is currently working on a two year Gerald Durrell project producing 20 major new paintings with the Durrell Foundation.

Captain Cat - painting by Tony Todd

"Captain Cat: Although blind he 'sees' all gossip in the small fishing village off Lareggub.  The painting demonstrates the complete bending of perspective rules, thus enabling the viewer to see in one image, far more than when conventional perspective is used.  See several stories going on at the same time - the more you look the more you see."

Butcher Beynon - painting by Tony Todd

"Butcher Beynon: Butcher Beynon and Mrs Beynon enjoy their meal while the 'girl' cooks and boils at the stove.  Look through the butchers shop with it's hanging meant, and then further through the shop window to the harbour beyond.  Once again, conventional perspective is of no consequence in this idiosyncratic style of painting."
