On the first floor, this finely proportioned room is lined with pine panels about three feet wide, rising to the ceiling above the dado. This is the only room in the house retaining its original mantelpiece with a charming carved ornament at the sides of fruit and flowers. An unusual feature is that the windows are provided with shutters which can be pulled out from recesses in the panelling each side, sliding together in grooves in the windowsills. It is likely that this was the main bedroom and children and personal servants were accommodated on the second floor. Other servants' quarters would be in the upper part of the Brew House and stables.
