A visit to Guildford House Gallery would be relevant when developing the children’s literacy skills, particularly:

Speaking and listening skills during a gallery visit
Developing vocabulary
Gathering information by looking at the panels and labels with follow up discussion during visit and in classroom
Critical responses to the works on display through group discussions following completion of art critic sheets reading aloud what they have written and learning to consider others points of view.
Experience the difference between spoken and written language
Reading – finding out information from the exhibition labels
How labels are formatted (structure of the text) (Key Stage 2)
Be inspired by the images to produce creative writing, to write their own stories and/or poems
