Chantry Wood

Forming part of the ridge of the North Downs, just to the South of Guildford, Chantry Wood is 78 hectares of mixed woodland and an Area of High Ecological Value within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in striking distance of Guildford Town Centre. The North Downs Way goes through the site from East to West and three way-marked trails have been developed which can be found in an information leaflet on the site. Some of the best views in the Borough can be found from the Five Fields located on the south of the site where there is also a campsite available to youth groups and charities.

Access/furniture
Public footpaths and tracks dissect the site throughout. Disabled and pushchair access along main tracks. A small car park (Grid ref: TQ 0038 4834) can be found off Pilgrims Way but visitors are encouraged to travel by public transport. Formal signage, notice boards and temporary information signs can be found at access points and where work is being carried out. Dog bins. Seating within the woodland and at view points.

Habitat
Mixed broadleaf and conifer woodland, unimproved pasture and ponds

Management
A great deal of proactive work goes on within the woodland, coppicing, ride widening, hedge laying, tree planting, meadow management and footpath repair to name a few. Much of this is done with the help of local volunteers and the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers.
