Lakeside Nature Reserve

This 20-hectare park and Local Nature Reserve lies in the heart of the Blackwater Valley on the borders of Surrey and Hampshire, west of the centre of Ash. The reserve contains a mosaic of different riverside habitats that support a variety of wildlife. The Park is popular with anglers, walkers and naturalists.  This site was designated a Local Nature Reserve in 2000.

Access/furniture
Two way marked trails have been constructed much of which has access for wheelchairs. A large car park is located off Lakeside Road. Occasional seating and formal interpretation boards can be found in the park and a leaflet with information on the park and description of nature trails is available.

Habitat
Mixed broadleaf woodland, lakes, riverside, meadow and ponds. Good site for Daubenton’s bats. One of the best sites in Surrey for Dragonflies and Water Spiders.

Management
The park is managed by the Borough in partnership with the Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership under a Service Level Agreement. Local conservation volunteers carry out many projects. Footpaths are cut regularly, meadowland mown annually with grass collected to promote ground flora. Tree work is reactive.
